7 Day Family Vacation - Auckland to Auckland

 

 

 

Day one   Auckland - The City of Sails  Some of the majestic creatures on display at Kelly Tarltons Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World.
Upon arrival at Auckland Airport, you will pick up your rental vehicle and drive to your central city accommodation.  This day is free for you to unpack, relax and explore the city area.  Some suggestions:
Viaduct Basin.  This vibrant waterfront precinct was developed to provide a focus for America's Cup Yacht Race.  This is also a great place for nighttime entertainment with it's many cafes and bars.
Sky City. Standing 328 meters tall, it's pretty hard to miss. Being one of New Zealand's most popular entertainment destinations.  Having 2 casinos, ten restaurants and bars and from the Observation level, the best view of Auckland City and surrounding areas.
Stay in Auckland accommodation overnight.

 

Day two   Auckland - Rotorua
Today you drive south to Rotorua, ths is approx. 3.5 hours.  Rotorua is one of the Pacific's most active thermal areas and is a place of vibrant Maori culture and great natural beauty.  You can view magnificent examples of mud pools, geyers and steaming fumaroles. Some of the many geothermal areas are Wai-o-tapu, Waimangu or Hell's Gate.  Surrounding Rotorua are 14 beautiful lakes offering fishing, water sports or try your hand at whitewater rafting, lunging or tandem skydiving.  Let us know your choice so we can book for you.  Tonight, you have to visit a marae, enjoy a concert and hangi (traditional Maori meal).  This is your chance to experience traditional Maori culture.
Your accommodation is arranged for 2 nights in Rotorua.

Day three   Rotorua
Explore Rotorua further. 

Places to visit:(optional) Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and Pohutu Geyser, the Paradise Valley Springs, Bird and Wildlife Park, the Agrodome Sheep Show and Skyline Skyrides Gondola.

Day four   Rotorua - Taupo

Today you will travel to Taupo, a journey of approx 1 hour, 20 minutes.  Lake Taupo - This thermally active region is famous for rainbow and brown trout fishing.  Taupo being the largest centre, located on the shores of the lake, this town offers a vast array of adventure activities and thermal
areas.  Today a ride could be arranged for you with Huka Jet.  Here you can experience an exhilarating, close-up view of the Waikato River's biggest and most spectacular falls.

Day five   Taupo - Waitomo

Today you will drive to Waitomo, home to the famous Waitomo Caves (approx 3 hours drive).  On your way, stop at the Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park.  This is the best view you can get of the genuine (feathered) kiwi and other rare native birds.  Enjoy the peaceful rural location of Waitomo. The Caves are the area's best known and world famous natural attraction with their vast caverns full of eerie stalactite and stalagmite formations.  The huge network of limestone caves are home to millions of glowworms.  Additional:  Take a tour of your choice to admire the glowworms by boat, walks or blackwater rafting.

Day six   Waitomo - Auckland

Today you are to head back north to Auckland.  Your drive will take approximately 3 hours.  Today is free to have more fun in Auckland.  Some suggestions:

Rainbow's End.  Situated at Manukau (approx ½ hours drive from the city on the Southern Motorway), this is New Zealand's Premier Theme Park.  23 Acres of rides and attractions.

Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World.  Explore the wilds of Antarctica, living in this frozen habitat are colonies of King and Gentoo Penguins, watch then play in real ice and snow.  Then travel deep beneath the ocean to see giant stingray, moray eels and come face to face with the awesome predators of the deep - SHARKS - Only centimeters away.

Day seven   Auckland

Drop off your rental vehicle as per your Rental Agreement.  Check-in for your return flight home under your own arrangements.
