CLT08 Kaikoura - Whale Watch

Spend your day getting close to nature. Kaikoura is world renowned for the variety of marine mammals, which can be seen, not least of all the giant sperm whales and the acrobatic Dusky Dolphins.  On your arrival in Kaikoura you will be transferred to a whale watch tour; by boat, light aircraft or helicopter, the choice is yours.  Following the tour lunch has been arranged at either Aromas Café and Bar or at Finz Restaurant.  In the afternoon you will visit a seal colony where fur seals may be viewed at close quarters. On your return to Christchurch a stop will be made at a North Canterbury vineyard where a wine tasting has been arranged for your please.

  • Travel by road or train through the rural pastoral scenes of North Canterbury to Kaikoura where mountains meet sea
  • On arriving in Kaikoura you will join a whale watch tour; by boat or light airplane. Helicopter option available also. On the tour you may view the giant sperm whale and often other whale species, dolphins, seals and the Royal Albatross
  • Lunch at the Aromas Cafe & Restaurant (optional)
  • Visit a fur seal colony on the rocky shores which surround Kaikoura. This stop provides a great photo opportunity
  • Wine tasting has been arranged for your pleasure at one of North Canterbury's fine vineyards, during your return journey to Christchurch.

Option C: Any of the whale watching tours as described above and including a one-way journey on the TranzCoastal train from Christchurch to Kaikoura. Tour Price plus NZ$75.00 per person.

 

Option D: Any of the Whale Watch options as listed including a one-way flight by light aircraft either from Christchurch to Kaikoura or return. This option provides flexibility for those visitors short on time. You have the flexibility of either departing Christchurch at 10.00am arriving in Kaikoura at 11.00am in time for the Whale Watch tour and returning to Christchurch to coach; alternatively travelling to Kaikoura by coach and returning to Christchurch by plane, departing 3.00pm and arriving Christchurch at 4.00pm. Option E: Combine the Kaikoura Whale Watch tour on day one with Kaikoura Swim with the Dolphins Tour on day. Included in the tour price is one nights five star accommodation at the Anchor Motor Inn (or similar). NZ$495.00 per person. Single Room Supplement NZ$110.00.

Option F: Combine Kaikoura Whale Watch with Kaikoura Swim with the Dolphins in the same day. Whale Watch will be by light aircraft on your arrival in Kaikoura, followed by the swim with Dolphins tour in the afternoon. NZ$445.00 per person.
